Choosing an electric vehicle for a family usually means looking at the interior space available and the kind of comfort and driveability that suits such needs. It should be quick and nimble for numerous short journeys such as school runs, while also capable of taking the whole squad on an adventure somewhere faraway.
Here we look at some of the best electric vehicles for families from a variety of price ranges and spec levels.
Audi Q4 e-tron
With lots of space inside and a battery range up to 314 miles, the Audi Q4 e-tron is an excellent choice for larger families. It is a comfortable drive for both the driver and passengers, though it is in a significantly higher price bracket than most of the electric vehicles on this list.
Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai offer a less expensive EV with a similar range to their expensive Ioniq 5. The Kona Electric model keeps it simple and yet is still an excellent choice for families. It does feature some older tech that has been surpassed recently, meaning its charge rates are not as impressive as some newer vehicles. Put this EV in the ‘old reliable’ category.
Kia e-Niro
The Kia e-Niro has a battery range up to 282 miles which is lower than most other entries on this list. However, the advantages of this EV is the generous storage space, with 451 litres available in the boot alone. Again, similar to the Hyundai Kona Electric, some of the tech is getting on a bit and the charge rates do not match-up so well with more recent vehicles.
Kia EV6
Kia’s pricier alternative to the e-Niro is the EV6, which offers a big improvement on the battery range, which now goes up to 328 miles off of a single charge. It is a very stylish EV, though still designed to be family friendly. It features plenty of technology as standard, though the storage space in the boot is limited due to the extra leg room available in the back seats.
Peugeot e-208
The most affordable model on this list is the Peugeot e-208, which is reflected in the much lower battery range of up to 217 miles. It is also a smaller model than others on this list, though is still a very capable family EV. Perhaps best suited to smaller families or those with younger children who live in or near to a city.
Volkswagen ID3
This EV in the mid-price range has a big battery range of up to 340 miles. It is Volkswagen’s attempt at creating a classic all round vehicle similar to their once ubiquitous Golf car. The ID3 has lots of interior space with plenty of useful technology as standard.
Volvo XC40 Electric
From some more affordable models to the most expensive on the list, the Volvo XC40 Electric has a less than impressive battery range of up to 264 miles. However, it is a very spacious and stylish SUV designed for families, and is actually quite a powerful drive even if the battery range does compare to others in the same price range.
